Texture level

3 · Liquidised

Pours smoothly like a thick drinkable soup. No lumps, no bits, and no chewing at all. Can be taken from a cup or spoon, and should not hold its shape on the plate.

Suitable for anyone who finds food hard to chew or swallow. Graded IDDSI Level 3 (Liquidised) — smooth & drinkable — the texture standard used in dysphagia care and soft diets.

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana
  • 1/2 Orange, peeled and quartered
  • 1/3 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup Water or milk Dairy or non-dairy
  • 1-2 tsp Honey or maple syrup Optional

  2. Turn the blender on and blend until creamy and smooth. Taste, then adjust with honey if needed.

Serving Tips

Important Guidance

  • Blend a little longer than feels necessary — orange segments can leave behind fine, stringy fibers if under-blended, which is the main risk in an otherwise very smooth drink.
  • This smoothie pours smoothly and holds no shape, which makes it a natural fit for a Level 3 liquidised texture as blended.
  • For anyone who needs a thicker, spoon-held texture instead of a drink, add more yogurt or a thickener until it reaches a Level 4 consistency.
  • Serve immediately after blending — smoothies can separate or thin out further as they sit.
